Drawings the
council accepts.

Site-specific traffic management drawings for permit submissions, client approval and the crew on the day.

A good traffic management drawing does two jobs. It shows the highway authority exactly how the works will be managed, and it shows the crew exactly what to put out. We draw for both.

What we draw

  • Footway occupations and closures, with protected pedestrian routes and crossing points.
  • Lane closures and give-and-take arrangements on low-speed roads.
  • Temporary traffic signals: two-way, three-way and multi-phase, with signal head positions and stop lines.
  • Road closures and diversions, including advance signing and the diversion route.
  • Phased schemes where the layout changes as the works progress.
  • Swept path overlays for deliveries, cranes and plant.

What the drawing includes

Every drawing carries a title block with the site location, what3words reference, traffic management system, road speed, site reference, key, and the designed and checked dates. That is what authorities look for first, and it saves a round of questions.

Drawings are prepared to Chapter 8 principles on Ordnance Survey base mapping. PDF is issued as standard, ready to attach to a permit application. DWG files are available on request.

Turnaround

Straightforward footway and lane closure drawings are usually quick. Road closures, multi-phase schemes and anything on a classified road take longer and may need a site survey first. Send us the dates and we will tell you what is realistic.

We do not guarantee that an authority will approve a drawing. Approval is the authority’s decision. We draw to give the application the best chance and respond quickly to any comments.

CAD DESIGN FAQS

Common
questions.

Not sure what your project needs?
Speak to Vanguard.

Do I need a drawing for a simple footway closure?

Usually yes. Most highway authorities ask for a plan with any permit or licence application, even for short-duration footway works. A simple drawing also helps the crew set out the site correctly.

What format do you issue drawings in?

PDF as standard, ready to attach to a permit application. DWG files can be provided on request.

Can you work from my own site photos and sketches?

Yes. Photos, a marked-up map and a clear description of the works are often enough for a first draft. For complex sites we may recommend a site survey.

Will you submit the drawing to the council?

We can. Our local authority liaison service coordinates permit, notice and TTRO applications with the drawing attached, and handles any comments that come back.

Requirements vary by location and scope. Contact us to discuss the requirements for your project.
