OUR SERVICES / TRACKMATTING
Access over
soft ground.
Temporary ground protection and access arrangements suited to your site, ground conditions and expected vehicle movements.
Where a vehicle has to leave the carriageway, trackmatting protects the ground underneath and keeps the vehicle moving. It is often the difference between a clean verge handed back and a reinstatement bill.
Where it is used
- Temporary access across verges and grass to a site or compound.
- Crane and MEWP standing areas on soft ground.
- Pedestrian routes diverted onto grass or unmade ground.
- Protection of paved areas, block paving and tree roots from plant.
- Temporary haul routes within a works area.
How we plan it
We look at the ground conditions, the heaviest vehicle expected and the number of movements, then specify the mat type and the extent of the route. Where the route crosses a footway or verge on the highway, the authority may need to approve it and may ask for it to be shown on the traffic management drawing.
Mats are supplied, laid and recovered through our Key Delivery Partners and coordinated by Vanguard.
What weight can trackmats take?
It depends on the mat type and the ground. Tell us the heaviest vehicle and we will specify mats that suit it.
Do I need permission to lay mats on a verge?
If the verge is part of the public highway, usually yes. We can include it in the permit or licence application.
Can mats be left in place for the whole job?
Yes, subject to the authority’s conditions. We plan inspection and security for mats left in place.
Requirements vary by location and scope. Contact us to discuss the requirements for your project.
